Taking care of collections: new Curator sought

We are pleased to announce that we are now able to recruit for the position of University Lecturer/Curator for the Botanic Garden
After the March departure of Dr Tim Upson to take up the post of Director of Horticulture at the RHS, the directorate of the Garden has taken the opportunity to review the senior management team at the Botanic Garden, along with colleagues in the Department of Plant Sciences.

We are pleased to announce that we are now able to recruit for the position of University Lecturer/Curator, a key member of the Garden's senior management. This exciting position has been designed to support and strengthen research and teaching using the living plant collections of the Botanic Garden. The role-holder will develop and deliver courses in plant systematics and taxonomy within the Department of Plants Sciences and for a range of audiences, and undertake research relevant to plant systematics and taxonomy leading to publication. The role-holder will also develop the strategic policy and planning framework required to ensure that the plant collections meet the research and education requirements of the Botanic Garden. They will promote and facilitate accessibility of the collections and provide the taxonomic expertise crucial to the research and teaching values of the Garden's plant collections.

During his 17 years with the Garden, Dr Upson's role had expanded to encompass not only curatorial responsibility for the collections and for teaching taxonomy within the Department of Plant Sciences, but also management and development of the estate and infrastructure. This part of the brief will now be split out into a new position, for which we will be recruiting later in the year.
